Editorial policy
The standards every page on SalaryHome is held to, from a state tax rule to a sentence in a guide.
Figures come from the engine
No number on the site is typed by hand. Every amount, rate and example, in calculators, state pages and guides alike, is computed at build time from the same rules and data the calculators use. When a rule changes, every page that mentions it changes with it. An automated check stops any page with a hand-typed figure from being published.
Primary sources only
Rules come from the agency that sets them: the IRS, state revenue and labor departments, city and county tax offices, and federal statistical agencies for data. Other calculators and commercial guides are used only to cross-check, never as a source. Each rule records its source and the date it was last checked, and the sources page lists them all.
Written to be useful
State and guide pages are written one at a time about what is actually different in that place or topic, in plain language. We do not publish pages that only repeat another page with a different name, and an automated check compares sibling pages to catch it. Where a rule is uncertain or about to change, the page says so rather than guessing.
Independence
We do not accept payment to include, rank or recommend any product, lender or service, and there are no affiliate links on the site. If that ever changes, each such link will be labeled where it appears, and this page will be updated first. We do not publish testimonials or reviews.
Updates
Tax rules are checked every month and as soon as a state announces a change; new-year tables go live when the IRS and the states publish them, with pages for the coming year marked as pending until then. Mortgage rates update weekly. Every substantive change is dated in the changelog, and errors are handled under the corrections policy.
Review
The site does not yet have an outside credentialed reviewer, and no page claims one. The published tests and the methodology are there so anyone can check the work.
